A Sixties Spectacular Comes to the EKU Center!
The EKU Center for the Arts will present a Sixties Spectacular with three legendary bands this winter. On January 22, 2017, the Center welcomes Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, and The Buckinghams, for a one-night-only concert event filled with hit songs from the 1960s that are sure to bring back the memories.
Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone
Peter Noone was a leader of the British Invasion and achieved international fame as lead singer of the legendary Sixties pop band Herman’s Hermits. His classic hits include: “I’m Into Something Good,” “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter,” “I’m Henry VIII, I Am,” “Silhouettes”, “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat,” “Just A Little Bit Better,” “Wonderful World,” “There’s A Kind of Hush,” “A Must To Avoid,” “Listen People,” “The End of the World,” and “Dandy.” Herman’s Hermits has sold over sixty million recordings. In all, fourteen singles and seven albums went gold.
Gary Puckett & The Union Gap
Gary Puckett & The Union Gap are one of the most successful musical groups of the 1960s. Puckett's unmistakable signature voice garnered six consecutive gold records and Top 10 Billboard hits with: “Young Girl,” “Woman Woman,” “Lady Willpower,” “Over You,” “This Girl Is A Woman Now,” “Keep The Customer Satisfied,” “Don’t Give Into Him,” and “Home.” “Young Girl” was reissued by popular request in England where it reached No. 1 and achieved a Silver Records Award for the second time. Gary Puckett and The Union Gap's "Greatest Hits" album is one of CBS’s best-selling “Collector's Series” albums today.
One of the most beloved and respected Chicago bands ever to explode onto the national scene, The Buckinghams’ live concerts pack power into Sixties pop rock. Their No. 1 song, “Kind of a Drag,” is a standout favorite that first made them famous. Next came seven national chart hits, 15 singles, and eight acclaimed albums. When Billboard Magazine named them “The Most Listened to Band in America,” The Buckinghams became national favorites on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Smothers Brothers’ Comedy Hour, American Bandstand, and more.
